make iconCrows: take note. In a totally nondescript strip mall on Biscayne Avenue at 125th, behind the old Smokehouse and sandwiched between a French Bakery and a Latin market, there is this wonderful old-school button, bead, trim, and notions shop. For twenty three years, Kat has been in the sparkle business. On walls, in cases, on counters, on the floor, and even from the ceiling, beads, baubles, colorful ribbon, and bright twinkly things glitter in every corner. Although she specializes in glass and vintage beads, there’s something here for everyone, no matter your project or budget. Her prices are great because she does a good part of her business with designers who will make their own jewelry for resale. Plus, you’ll find lots of quirky stuff like a huge bin of funky patches, unusual trims, and great vintage jewelry just waiting to be worn to your next hip soiree. When you go in you’ll see Kat behind the counter, and if you are lucky enough to hear some of her stories, you also hear the dulcet tones of her Brooklyn accent that hasn’t gone dull after thirty years in Miami. She’s great, and so is her place.
